Dear Parents and Carers,
‘A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself’’ Joseph Campbell
This week we have been thinking about the coming weekend and Remembrance Day. This is a time that the church, the school and the whole community can come together. We have focused on our core values of Love, Courage and Respect. We have talked with the children about their relevance to the past and present but how through these values we can contribute in our everyday lives towards a vision of peace for the future.
Today the whole school attended a short service of remembrance at the war memorial in the village. The behaviour of the children was exemplary and respectful. The school council representatives from each class laid a wreath made by the children; it was moving to hear all of the children sing as part of the service after the two minutes silence. We would like to say a huge thank you to the Royal British Legion and Reverend Linda who helped to organise this morning’s service and share the act of Remembrance with the children.
During this coming week we have several dates for the diary. On Tuesday and Wednesday we have our Parent Consultation Evenings; times can be booked through the school office. We would like to encourage all parents to take the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher as this is an important opportunity to be updated on progress and attainment for the term. Also on Wednesday 15th November at 8.40am we have our next school Eucharist service in church, we would like to invite parents to join us for this.
Last half term we were asked by a number of parents about a Homework Club, we are going to run this on a trial basis for Key Stage 2 on a Friday afternoon for three weeks. This will be on Friday 17th Nov, 24th Nov and 1st Dec from 2.45pm and 3.30pm. All children in Years 3 4, 5 and 6 are welcome to attend.
As a school we are committed to Safeguarding and are continually reviewing our practice, with this in mind we would like to review our collection arrangements for children at the end of the day. If your child is being collected by someone other than an adult with registered parental responsibility for the child or an adult listed on the data collection form (eg: known grandparent), please could parents/guardians ensure that the class teacher and office are aware of this change. We realise that on some occasions children are returning home to play with friends and are collected by one set of parents, we would still politely request that we are informed of this to avoid any confusion. Please do not be offended if the teacher or member of staff asks for confirmation of the arrangements, our primary concern is the safety and welfare of your child.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Remembrance Day service on Sunday.
Best wishes, Mrs Fox
