Dear Parents and Carers,
The momentum, excitement and activities for the summer term have begun to gather pace, we are now half way through this part of the term and we are busy trying to ensure that the range of summer term events are planned and booked into the diary.
Coming up we have Scooter Skills for our Year 4 children, we have a cricket roadshow for the whole school. On the 22nd May all parents are invited into assembly to launch our morning of cricket activities, during this time there will be information for parents about how their children can become involved in the sport; then across the morning the children will all be treated to taster sessions. Before this, on 12th May there is Wolverton Folk and Blues Fair, this is a really important event in the local calendar. This fun, family, friendly festival has an amazingly relaxing atmosphere and all funds raised go to support Leukaemia Research and our school. We do hope families will buy tickets and come along to join in the fun on the day; also any offers of help will be very much appreciated – please do contact the school office if you are able to give some time to assist at the event.
Later this term, we have the Shorwell Midsummer Fair. This local event has always been well supported by the school and has in return made generous donations to the school. We would like to maintain the strength of the link that we have, there will certainly be our traditional contribution of country dancing but we would also like to continue to run the toy stall at the fair. This cannot be done without help and organisation. We are appealing for help from anyone who feels that they would be able to take over the organisation of the toy stall, along with people to help cover the stall across the afternoon. Please do contact us if you able to do this.
Our worship theme this half-term is Service and we have been thinking about how we can serve others and the world around us in different ways. This week we have focused on the many different skills and talents that we have, with everyone having an important role to play as part of our school. On Tuesday our Netball team demonstrated these qualities so well, they took part in the island final and even though the competition was tough they demonstrated determination and resilience. They came in the top ten overall for the island and we are really proud of their sportsmanship and teamwork. Hi Five Netball is tough, every member of the team has to play in a different position for each round of the game on rotation; this challenges the children to try out skills in every aspect of the game. Well done to all of them for their effort and for the excellent example of behaviour they set for the school.
This week we are blessed with a Bank Holiday, I wish you all an extended opportunity to rest and enjoy the long weekend.
Best wishes
Mrs Fox
