Dear Parents and Carers,
Our school has been a ‘hive’ of activity this week! The children have settled in to the routines of school life and it is a real pleasure to see them so engaged in their learning.
The first school trip of the year was for the year 6 children, who went to UKSA on Thursday. They demonstrated courage and resilience as they tested the skills needed for dinghy sailing in gusty conditions. They returned to school with a great sense of achievement – well done to all of them.
Having Plum the Labrador in school last year was a real success and her presence in school had a significant impact on the well-being of a number of our children. When Miss Willcock left at the end of last term, Plum left too. This week the children were introduced to ‘Tango’ an eleven week old cockapoo puppy, who is going to be our school dog. In the early stages of her training it is important that she is familiarized with the school environment and socialized appropriately. The dog has to be owned by a member of school staff and live in a family home outside of school hours, so during the summer holidays I did a lot of research into finding a dog that I would be happy to own but that would also have an appropriate temperament to be in school. I would like to reassure parents that she will undergo all the relevant training that she needs and that all the necessary risk assessments will be in place. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
This Saturday is the annual Round the Island relay race organized by the BSA. Can we regain the honour of winning this? I will definitely be at Isle of Wight Pearl to cheer on the runners as they complete the final leg of their race. Please do sponsor the various runners, this is an important fundraiser and the money raised benefits all of the children in our school.
We are still advertising for a Bus Escort, please do come and talk to me if you are interested, there is the possibility of being able to share the hours, or to do either morning or afternoon.
If you have any questions about your child’s learning please do not hesitate to speak to your class teacher or myself. I am in the playground most mornings and I am happy to speak to you informally or to arrange an appointment
Best wishes
Mrs Fox
