Issue 25 Brighstone Buzz 17th April 2020

Hello to you all,

I hope that you are all keeping safe and well, and that you have had a lovely Easter holiday, with lots of sunshine
and chocolate!

When the schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, I said that the Buzz on Friday 20th March would sadly
be my last for a while. However, we are all missing you here, so I’d thought that, alongside our Facebook page and
class emails, I would restart the weekly Buzz so we can continue to keep in touch.

The current situation has brought many changes and challenges to our lives, but it has been wonderful to see how
everyone has been so supportive of each other, either through offering a helping hand with shopping, or being a
friendly voice at the end of the phone, or just sharing a smile. Two particular activities really come to mind –
rainbows and clapping! You may have noticed all the colourful rainbows brightening up windows as you travel
around on your daily exercise, and you may even have created one yourself. They really cheer everyone up. Also,
the weekly Clap for our Carers has brought everyone together in solidarity and support, so well done to everyone
who joins in to show our appreciation of all that those on the frontline are doing for us.

Sadly, schools remain closed for the foreseeable future (except for the children of key workers and any vulnerable
children). Therefore, new activities have been added to each home learning pack. Alongside the usual English,
Maths and Spellings/Phonics activities, there is also a whole-school topic about the Isle of Wight (tailor-made for
each year group), which covers a range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, Geography and History. We
hope you enjoy the activities within the topic, and we look forward to seeing your completed work (either via
email or when school reopens). Mr Goldsmith has also put in some more PE activities to encourage you to keep
being active!

Many children have been accessing the online learning that is available, including the White Rose daily Maths
lessons, Joe Wicks’ PE lessons, Purple Mash, the RWI daily speed sounds lessons, Times Tables Rock Stars (KS2
only) and the eBooks on Oxford Owl. If you would like further information about these, please don’t hesitate to
ask. The home learning packs continue to be available on the school website; however, if you require a paper pack,
please let your class teacher know via the class email and a pack will be printed for you ready for collection.

Remember that you can keep up-to-date via the class emails, as well as by checking out our school Facebook page,
as well as the BSA Facebook page. Many of you have been emailing some of the work that you have been
completing, as well as photos of other fun activities that you have been carrying out at home. These have been
wonderful to see, so keep them coming!

Thank you for all your support and understanding, and remember to keep a look out for our school star, knowing
that we are all looking up at it together in unity while it shines down on us through these difficult times.

Best wishes and keep safe,
Mrs Lennon

Parent Survey – Feedback

“Brighstone School is an excellent school. Very happy with the progress my child is making”

“My child has come on in leaps and bounds and has massively surprised me. I am very happy.”

Thanks to all parents who took part in our recent Parent Questionnaire. We are proud to report that 100% of parents who responded said that their child is happy and feels safe at our school. The responses this year also show an overall improvement in the school’s performance in meeting particular pupils’ needs, supporting learning, receiving information about progress and dealing with bullying – and it was great to see that you feel we are good at keeping you well informed.

Our thanks to all parents who completed the questionnaire.
