Dear Parents and Carers,
What a combination of hard work, activity and focus this week has been!
Well done to all of our Year 6 pupils for all of the stamina and resilience they have shown in their tests this week. We were really impressed by the sense of calm and determination they had each day as they sat the papers. The tests are only one moment in time and do not reflect the whole of the learning journey that the children have been on. What really matters is the wide range of skills that all of the children have and the unique contribution that each one of them makes to the school. We would also like to thank all of the staff, volunteers and governors that came in every day to help ensure that the children had the support that they needed.
As I walked around the school on Thursday afternoon, the atmosphere was one of fun, joy and celebration. It was a real pleasure to see how every year group was enjoying the outdoor environment and the warm summer weather in a variety of ways. Year 5 and some of year 4 were at the tennis courts, the remainder of year 4 were learning about safe use of their scooters on local pavements, year 3 were learning the ‘Spider’s Web’ on the maypole, year 2 were preparing some country dancing for their castle day and year 6 were using the amphitheatre to rehearse their drama. Reception and year 1 had been outside earlier in the afternoon working collaboratively with year 5 and 6 preparing a dance for our Summer Queen celebration.
Today we used our long standing Brighstone tradition of the Summer Queen celebration to commemorate the Royal Wedding. Kereena and Jack H our oldest girl and boy, crowned Leigh and Max C, our youngest girl and boy. Well done to the whole school for their contributions of dancing and singing. We wish Prince Harry and Meghan all the best for their future as they start out on their married life together.
During the coming week there are a couple of events that we would like to invite parents to. On Tuesday 22nd May we have a cricket roadshow for the whole school. All parents are invited into assembly at 8.35am to launch our morning of cricket activities. During this time there will be information for parents about how their children can become involved in the sport; then across the morning the children will all be treated to taster sessions. We also have a whole school church service, this is on Wednesday morning at 8.40am. It will be our first opportunity to share a school worship with Revd. Clive Todd. We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to come along and join us for these events.
Best wishes, Mrs Fox
