Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow! What an incredible week!
Yesterday the children from year 4 – (Nightingale Class) welcomed their parents into school to share their learning. They put together a ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ red carpet experience, this included every child in coming forward, taking a bow and receiving an award for an aspect of their learning. They also had on display performances of their monologues, sound scape activities and a range of science experiments. It was very rewarding to see the children and parents alongside each other excited about the learning opportunities that the class have had.
Later that afternoon we also had the parents from year 3 – (Swallow Class) join their children for a Shadow Puppet Show. The children had designed puppets of characters from the BFG and then used their learning from science about light to create shadow puppet theatres. It was really encouraging to hear the children read extracts from the book for themselves while the rest of the group performed the puppet show. A very effective idea – well done Swallow Class.
This week has been another busy week for sporting activities. Our under 9 football team played together for the first time in a match against St Blasius Primary school in Shanklin. They showed great team skills and sportsmanship, which gave them a well deserved win of 3 -1. We also had a group of sixteen year 5 and 6 children take part in an Inter-Schools Cross Country Competition, all of the children showed great stamina and perseverance. A special well done needs to go to the year 6 boys’ team who came third overall.
As well as outside sporting events we have also had two afternoons of Inter-House competitions. Our year 6 House Captains put in a huge amount of effort to help organise these, they showed a good level of maturity and responsibility.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the dates for our Parent Consultation Evenings for this term, they will be on Wednesday 9th November and Thursday 10th November. Appointments will be ten minutes per child. If you think that you have a concern that needs to be discussed and it will take longer than the allocated time, we would ask that you make an appointment to see the class teacher separately on another night. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Reception foyer on Monday 31st October or you can telephone Suzanne or Melissa to make an appointment.
I hope you all have an enjoyable and restful half term.
Best wishes
Mrs Fox
