Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy and action packed half-term we have had! This week we have continued to build on the extra-curricular opportunities that our children have had access to. To say that they have been out of this world would match perfectly with our Year 5 & 6 Space Camp that took place across two days on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
The children in year 5 & 6 spent two days enhancing their understanding of Space and the Solar System through a STEM project that included astronaut training, exploring rock samples and computer coding. The opportunity to star gaze was limited – until 6.00am on Tuesday morning when the skies cleared, there were only momentary breaks in the cloud that provided glimpses of the moon. Even so, for the children looking at the moon through a telescope was quite a remarkable experience, viewing the lunar landscape with their own eyes rather than in a photograph created a moment of awe and wonder for everyone that took part. One of the highlights across the past week is that we have been able to borrow the moon. We have had actual samples of rocks and minerals that have been collected across a number of Apollo missions kept securely in school. The children have been able to hold, touch and examine these at first hand.
Next half-term we have our Parent Consultation Evenings on Tuesday 26th November and Wednesday 27th November 2019. Some teachers will be offering both dates, depending on the size of their class, while others will be offering one evening. Nearer the time booking sheets will be available in the school office with the dates and times for specific classes. We would like to reassure parents that if they are unable to make an appointment at the times on offer, their child’s class teacher will be prepared to meet with them at an alternative time. We would like to encourage all parents to take the opportunity to meet with the class teacher as this is a valuable way of being updated on progress and attainment for the term. In the meantime, if there is anything that you would like to discuss about your child’s education please do not hesitate to speak to the class teacher or me.
We hope you have a restful weekend.
All of the flu vaccination consent forms have now been collected by Boots for those of you who wish for your child to be vaccinated. The clinic will be held on Monday 4th November during the afternoon and will be run and managed by the team from Boots Chemist, for the NHS.
I hope you all have a happy, enjoyable and restful half-term break.
Best wishes
Mrs Fox
