Welcome to our School
Welcome to Brighstone C.E. Aided Primary School, a small school in a village community. This website is intended to help you know more about the life and work of our school, and how we work together to provide a rich, stimulating, happy and caring environment for children.
Our school is situated in the idyllic village of Brighstone on the beautiful south west coast of the Isle of Wight. Ours is a happy school, where children of all ages work and play together cooperatively. Our school caters for children from 4 – 11 years old, with an onsite pre-school for children from birth to school age. The school is small enough for each child to feel at home, surrounded by friendly and familiar faces throughout the school day. We provide children with a wide range of quality and exciting learning experiences which prepare them for their next steps in their learning journey.
We are also proud of our wider curriculum opportunities and how we cater for pupils’ personal development. This includes running a School Council; running an EARA (Equality And Rights Advocates) group; having Pupil Safeguarding Leads; having close links with the church, the community and the local youth group (SWAY); taking part in national events such as Children in Need, Inter Faith Week, World Book Day, Show Racism the Red Card Day; inviting a wide range of visitors in, including STEM visitors, the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir, people of different faiths for Inter Faith Week; and taking the children on exciting trips and residentials to develop their personal growth and their cultural capital, such as the British Museum, Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Tile Barn Residential Centre, London, the local forest, the local beach and much more!
The staff and governors at Brighstone C.E. Aided Primary work as a dedicated, caring and hardworking team in order to ‘make things happen’ for the benefit of the children. We believe that close links between home and school are vital in promoting a safe, nurturing environment for the wellbeing and success of every child, and we welcome parents’ and carers’ help, support and involvement, both in and out of school, enabling us to provide the very best opportunities for each child.
Each year, we have chosen different themes for our class names to further develop the children’s cultural capital. These have included British bees, Isle of Wight sailors, British trees, flora and fauna, countries around the world, authors, artists and others. For the past three years, we have continued with the theme of British bees, linked to our bee-haviour focus.
Our school’s Christian values of love, courage and respect are promoted and shared throughout all aspects of school life.
